Librarian

My undergraduate degree is in Sociology and Education, and I am embarking on my master's in Special Education. For the past 5 years, I have served as the Elementary Librarian and an assistant teacher at Bellevue Montessori. Before that, I spent more than a decade teaching summer camps and after school classes in art and theater.

As the school librarian, I have worked to strengthen our library by adding engaging new books, improving access to resources, and helping our teachers and students connect with the public library. I also teach a series of library lessons that combine read-alouds with hands-on activities and explore topics ranging from emotions and history to research and information literacy.

As part of my sociology degree, I researched diverse representation in children's picture books, and I bring those perspectives into my library lessons. I believe diverse representation in stories is critical to a child's development. It allows children to see people who are like them represented as heroes and protagonists.

Throughout the year, I choose books with a diverse cast of main characters, both real and fictional, to help students learn about the world and themselves. Stories are a beautiful way to connect with children and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with these curious and insightful students!
